The use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) gadgets like mobile phones and computers still poses many risks to human lives, an ICT expert has noted.
According to the Chief Information Communication Technology Manager at Nakuru County government Erastus Wanyoike, although communication has been eased through developments in modern Information Communication Technology gadgets, there are still risks on the use of the same gadgets.
Speaking to county employees during a Risk Management workshop at the county offices on Sunday, Wanyoike observed that many risks involved in the use of ICT gadgets were unnoticed, yet some are related to health apart from socio-economic ones.
He noted that though it was wise to embrace ICT at the work place to provide efficiency and resource management measures, there was a need of assessing the risks involved to provide mitigations and solutions.
“We are living in a digital modern world. Though we are excited about saving time, resources and providing efficiency, we ought to look at the other side of it and see if it is healthy and sustainable,” said Wanyoike.
He further added that the impacts of ICT influx at the work place is a current burning issue globally, whose awareness needs to be embraced locally.
He noted examples of risks involved in the modern ICT gadgets use as including; exposure to ultraviolet light that affects eyesight, exposure to cyber crimes, exposure to violation of privacy, increase in immorality and cultural values disintegration among others.
