Huruma Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Chomba has accused Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago of buying National Identity cards from members of a certain community in the county.

The MCA claims the move is meant to ensure those who are perceived to be against the governor don't vote in the upcoming general elections.A National Identity Card or a passport is a required for anyone to be allowed to vote in the August 8 polls.

"The person leading an operation to buy the ID's is Samuel Mbugua and members of the Agikuyu community are the target since they are seen to be against governor Jackson Mandago," Chomba told the press in Eldoret town, Saturday.

"Money being used in the exercise is from Mandago and those who accept the offer are told that the ID's will be returned after the elections," he added.

The MCA now wants relevant authorities in the county to investigate the matter and ensure all those involved face the full force of the law. Samuel Mbugua, named as leading the team buying IDs could not be reached for comment.
