The Mombasa County government plans to hold a massive National Identity Cards (IDs) registration exercise across the Coast region.
Speaking in Mombasa town, Chief Registrar of persons in charge of Coast region Aggrey Maasai said the government will launch an intensive ID mobile registration exercise that will help the youth and the residents in acquring national identity cards.
Mr Maasai said the exercise which will start in April, will seek to distribute 50,000 IDs in the Coast region.
He said his officers will be stationed in different parts of the Coast region during the exercise.
He said all the residents will be registered at their respective sub-counties at the mobile centres which will be created in different locations.
“The ID mobile registration exercise will kick off in April and it will take a period of three months,” said Mr Maasai.
Mr Maasai said the exercise aims at registering new entrants and ID replacements.
“We will be doing fresh applications and lost IDs replacements during the exercise. Proper measures have been put in place to ensure only legal Kenyans get registered,” he said.
He urged residents especially the youth to take advantage of the mobile exercise and register for ID cards, adding that they cannot access or will be denied various services due to lack of the important document.
The applicants are expected to turn up with the required documentation for verification and ease of registration.
