Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s wife Ida is pained by the high number of youths so far shot and killed by police during peaceful demonstrations.Mrs. Odinga said the most affected counties were; Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kisumu and Nairobi which bore the brunt after the youth stood firm in demanding for free, fair and credible elections by way of barricading roads.Ida made the remarks during the burial of former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma’s mother, Joyce Olenye Ayombe (91) at Kombura village, Kobura in Nyando who passed on at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu last week.We have buried close to 100 youths following deaths attributed to such incidents and so we can no longer trust our security officers to protect lives yet we have in place the National Police Service as opposed to a police force,'' she argued.Ida called for the police force with a human face, not a police service that thrives on killing innocent citizens for picketing to push for electoral reforms. She called on Nairobi Governor or any other person accused of having collected and dumped large amounts of fecal matter at Jacaranda grounds in a desperate attempt to scuttle NASA rally, terming the act as tantamount to witchcraft.“If it is true or not that you ordered fecal matter be poured on Jacaranda grounds, please have it disinfected immediately to prevent an imminent outbreak of an epidemic”, Ida cautioned.Ranguma said computer generated ‘children’ (leaders) also existed in Kisumu, arguing that he didn’t move to become an Independent candidate out of choice but pushed to this after he was rigged out by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) but still campaigned for Odinga.
