The wife of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Ida Odinga never allows her husband in the kitchen, she said on Sunday.
Ida, who described herself as a mother, a grandmother, a mentor and a mother-in-law said during an interview with a local daily that one thing that women should learn is to ensure they control the kitchen because they perform better there.
She said she has never, for the many years she has been married to Raila allowed him to cook in her presence.
"The issue of running my kitchen is mine, not my husband’s," Ida, a teacher by profession said.
"I wouldn’t expect him to go and cook. We tried things when we were young and it failed."
She said majority of young women today enter into marriage not knowing how to cook and this to a greater extent has contributed to rising in divorce cases.
Ida, however, said men can become good cooks is given the opportunity and if they are trained.
She was speaking as the world marked Mothers Day, the day when women are celebrated for their contribution to raising children and transforming society.
She said she took it upon herself to ensure her two daughters- Rosemary and Winnie are good in cooking because she understands what it means to be a woman who poorly performs in the kitchen.
