The groups, according to the DCC, could be plotting to rob or abuse drugs in the community, a behavior he says he is ready to eliminate among some youths in the region.

He said that any group of youths found idling in Thika town and villages in the region will explain to the authority why they are idling instead of building the nation.

“Why should youths form groups of more than four people in the street doing nothing? What are they plotting to do,” wondered Gicheru.

The initiative to tame insecurity by dismantling groups has previously worked in the estates of Nairobi in the past few years where many youths were arrested and prosecuted.

Gicheru was speaking to the press on Wednesday in his office where he said that the year 2015 will be a year of vigilance to reduce crime especially in the sprawling Kiandutu slums, Kiganjo and Ngoingwa estates where robbery with violence has been a trend.

The DCC further urged minors to be their own keepers and avoid night clubs and partying since he has launched an onslaught to tame such events adding that he will not tolerate them.

“Children should not be found in clubs whatsoever and we are probing those bars that allow tchildren to party,” said Gicheru.

He said that he is working hand in hand with the area OCPD Shadrack Maithya to probe every club in town concerning minors who party in those clubs.

Gicheru however hailed leaders who helped in taming drugs and substance abuse by introducing projects that keeps youth busy in the area terming it as an act of leadership to the people.
