Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in Trans Nzoia have called on government to boost security at their camp following an attack by unknown people on Wednesday night.
The IDPs, thorugh their coordinator, Wasike Nyongesa, said the attackers are in company of women who he claims are used by the thugs to lure people to open their doors at night.
The IDPs are said to have received Sh40,000 payment from the government recently.
"They knock the door and the women tell you to open. Before you realise what is happening they are in the house ordering you to surrender the money, mobile phone and other valuables," Nyongesa said.
There are over 8,000 displaced persons in Trans Nzoia County who are expected to be resettled this month now that the government has acquired land for them.
Resettlement officer Francis Kioko said on January 9 the delay in the resettlement of the IDPs was due to logistical problems, including negotiations with landowners.
The government sourced funds from the African Development Bank, which were also used in financing the construction of houses for displaced families that had returned to their farms.
