Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have urged the national government to speed up their compensation process.
The IDPs, who include post-election violence victims and Mau Forest evictees, gathered at Maraba market in Tinderet, Nandi County, demanding compensation.
They said that they heeded to a directive by the national government that all the IDPs should move out of camps years ago yet they have received no compensation.
Hellen Kipkurere, an evictee and a victim of the 2007-2008 post-election violence said they are yet to receive any compensation or support from the government.
"When people were evicted from the forest, a large number of evictees took refuge at the tea estates making recognition almost impossible,'' she said.
Speaking at the same venue, national IDPs board member Margaret Gathoni said over 5,000 integrated IDPs in Nandi were in dire need of compensation.
She dismissed claims that all IDPs are yet to be compensated. She clarified that a section of forest evictees already received money and were living well.
Gathoni however urged the government to speed up the resettlement of IDPs in Nandi.
