Internally displaced Persons from all over the country have joined hands in donating food stuff for the Mumoi IDPs who have been stricken by drought. The food, which included potatoes, cabbages, maize and beans, has been taken to Mumoi where three IDps have died of hunger in the last two days. The IDP leaders, who made a call to other camps, said that they had been overwhelmed by the response. “The other IDPS felt the plight of their fellow brothers and since they were in more productive areas like Wiyumiririe in Laikipia and in Dundori area where food is plenty, they gave out sacks of food and organised how it was going to reach their fellow IDPS,” said Daniel Njenga, the secretary general of the National IDP Alliance. He said that they were also seeking for more dry cereals for the 600 families who faced starvation in the area. “We are asking for intervention from the government before we come up with a permanent solution to the problem. We are appealing for well-wishers to supply us with milk, maize flour and even dry grains,” he added. The alliance's secretary, Beatrice Nyokabi, said that the IDPs needed to be moved from the grounds as soon as possible. “The land here cannot be cultivated. We fear that many more people will die of starvation as nothing can grow here,” she said.
