Internally Displaced Persons in Kisii are crying for help after a promise made by President Kenyatta of resettling them failed to materialize.

In a promise made during the campaigning period, president Kenyatta promised to give the IDPs Sh300 million for their resettlement, but they now claim they have not received even a coin.

“we have come with a cheque of Sh358 million for the almost 7,000 families that have been living here, and in the next few days, we want the money to reach each and every individual, so that we know that we are done with resettling IDPs in Kisii county,” said Kenyatta when he gave out the cheque during the campaign.

The IDPs were set to receive the cash two weeks after the president’s promise, but to date, they have not received a penny.

This has prompted the IDPs to take their complaint straight to the County Commissioner’s office, to find a solution.

The facilitator in charge of funds indicated that he had received on Sh7 million, as their settlement but the list of beneficiaries could not be found.

They pointed a finger at a bank official, whom they claim was demanding a Sh10,000 bribe before granting them access to their money.

They have said they will continue to camping outside the commissioner’s office until someone attends to their cries.
