More than 200 IDPs living in Nakuru have vowed not to participate in the August elections, until the government compensates them.
The IDPs held peaceful demonstrations in Nakuru town on Tuesday, alleging that the government has been discriminating them while compensating the victims of the post election violence witnessed in 20007-2008.The IDPs marched to the county commissioner's office seeking his audience.
The IDPs chairman Rodgers Mwai claimed that they are part of the group which sought refuge from their friends and relatives, but they were 'profiled' for compensation.
'When we lost our property and loved ones we moved in to various camps within Nakuru. The government then came up with a campaign dubbed Operation Rudi Nyumbani where some of those in the camps were ressetled. The other group that crossed over to Uganda later came back and were compensated as refugees, but us we have not received even a single feedback from the government,"said Mwai.
"We will not vote if we don't get any response from the government,"said Mwai.
Later on the county commissioner Joshua Nkanatha adressed the IDPs at Nyayo Gardens and said that the government had full details of the IDPs but no funds had been released.
He urged them to be calm as the government plans to compensate them.
