A group of Internally Displaced Persons from Banita, in Nakuru North have raised concern over a group of people that has been going around the area asking them to give some money for resettling them.
Speaking to the press, Lucy Njeri who is the chairperson of the IDPs said that the group of people has been going round the camp saying that President Uhuru Kenyatta is the one who has given them the task and responsibility to ensure that the IDPs have been resettled.
"The group has been visiting the camp daily for the last one month saying that the national government is planning to give them Sh 600,000 each as compensation. The group has gone a step further and asked us to register so that our names can be on the list of the ones who will be compensated," Njeri said.
She noted that the group has been demanding Sh 350 from each IDP in the camp which they say is for passport size photographs that will be used for registration and another Sh 1000.
"We are calling upon the Government to investigate the group and go ahead and arrest and also charge them for trying to defraud us. We also want a committee to be created that will go ahead and deal with the issues that have been affecting the IDPs," Njeri said.
