The 1992 IDPS yesterday sued the state for not re-settling them before a Nakuru court.

The post-violence victims filed their suit before High Court judge Abigael Mshila where they wanted the state to resettle them like the post-chaos victims of 2007/8.

At least 20,000 people displaced from their homes during the 1992 tribal clashes in most of Rift Valley region want the government to resettle and compensate them.

They argued that they deserve to be recognised and be accorded the rights like the IDPs of 2007/08 post–election violence.

Through their spokesman, Francis Karumba, the IDPs said that they should not discriminated in the process of resettling them.

“We are entitled the same rights as the victims of 2007/8 post-election violence and the government should address our plight,” said Karumba.

He asked the government to fulfil its pledge of resettling them.

“We appeal to the government to do everything to resettle us,” said the spokesman.

Karumba said that the IDPs are going a difficult time.

“Accessing basic commodities like water and food is unbearable,” said Karumba.

Karumba said that the most affected are the children and the elderly who are prone to climatic conditions

He however urged the IDPS to cooperate with the government in solving the situation.

The IDPs resettlement has been delayed by the office of Attorney General which has accused the IDPS for not disclosing evidence that they were displaced persons.

The case was postponed till February 16, 2015 when all the parties will appear before Justice Mshila.
