IDP chairman Peter Kariuki cited that majority of the IDPs did not have seeds to plant yet they had pieces of land.

“Due to the increased spell of drought in the area, many of them were forced to eat the maize seeds they had spared for planting. Potatoes and beans were not spared either. We are now appealing to the government through the ministry of agriculture and livestock among other well wishers to aid us with the seeds,” he said.

Kariuki was speaking to the press In Nakuru town where he stated that some of the land had already been tilled for cultivation.

“We have already prepared land in Rongai, Subukia, Dundori and Pipeline. We intend to curb the increased cases of IDPs dying of hunger by ensuring that we have food security in our camps,” he added.

Kariuki lamented that three IDPs died in the beginning of the year due to hunger related complications.

“We want to eliminate the culture of begging for food amongst the IDPs. We assure the government that if we are given the right seedlings we will plant and sell our products to earn a living,” he added.
