Internally Displaced Persons have been urged to apply for identification cards so as to make it easy to resettle them in respective places. National Chairman of the IDPS Peter Kariuki pointed out that majority of the IDPs did not have ID cards as they had lost them during the 2007/2008 post election violence. Kariuki pointed out that once the resettlement process kicked off, they would need the cards to verify the identity of the victims. “We will not be accepting photocopies or any card that has fault especially in regards to the ID number. This mix up will pull us behind and we are appealing to our people to ensure they are not caught up,” he added. Kariuki was speaking to the press in Subukia where he challenged them to enroll in driving courses and technical institutions to better their chances of making a decent living “We appeal to them to at least get something they can earn a living from. We already have sponsors who are willing to see them through these small courses and give them temporary jobs,“ he added. Kariuki cited that there were increased cases of crime in the camps due to the jobless situation that currently faced them. “The youth do not have anything to do and hence resort to alcohol which forces them to commit crimes,” he added.
