The Electoral and Boundaries Commission has come out to explain why it decided to go ahead with the ballot printing tender despite calls by the opposition for canceling.

IEBC  Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba while speaking on Tuesday during an interview on NTV, said that the decision reached by the IEBC was at the interest of the state and the constitution.

He said the tender awarded to to Dubai-based Al Ghurair firm was done in accordance with the law adding that the commission had given sufficient time to all interested parties to raise their petition.

“We have never closed the door in terms of dialogue to anyone. Since February this year, we have been having discussions with different stakeholders. We are open but we must also be pragmatic. We must have elections come August as per the constitution,” he said.

He added that the Dubai firm had met all the requirements before being awarded the tender.
