Mokua who was speaking during an interview on KTN News said the inability by the electoral body to ascertain the voter turnout for the October 26 repeat presidential polls raises suspicion.

“Kenyans are learned people and IEBC cannot treat us like a bunch of fools. We can’t have conflicting figures of voter turnout provided for by the electoral body,” Mokua said.

The analyst reiterated that IEBC should have a strategic communication channel to prevent relay of conflicting information and subsequent suspicion by the public.

After the October polls, IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati through his twitter handle indicated that approximately 6.5 million voters had participated in the electoral process.

The commission through commissioner Guliye however reiterated that the 6.5 million voter turnout that had been indicated by the commission’s chairman was wrong data captured on the Kenya Integrated Electoral Management System (KIEMS kits) and it is yet to provide the correct data.

Mokua has however dismissed Guliye’s sentiments saying the buck stops with the IEBC’s chair who is the national returning officer and was instructed by the Supreme Court to hold a free, fair and credible election, free of illegalities and irregularities after the court nullified the August polls.
