The IEBC has clarified that the electoral body is not withholding Mombasa Governor-elect Hassan Joho’s certificate.
By law, individuals vying for political office who win elections receive election certificates and the document is supposed to be issued immediately after declaration of results.
There have been reports making rounds on social media indicating the IEBC has denied Joho the certificate.
Joho was re-elected on August 8 after beating his closest challenger Jubilee’s Suleiman Shahbal.
IEBC on Saturday, however, clarified that the certificate will be issued on August 12 at 2pm.
“Our Mombasa County Returning Officer did not refuse to give the Governor elect certificate. Paperwork took long, both parties agreed on 2pm today (Saturday August 12).
Joho is among governors who survived the voters’ wrath and sailed through to serve a second term.
The ODM deputy party leader has hinted at vying for the presidency in 2022.
