Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Kisumu County now want the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the National Land Commission (NLC) to resolve the Kisumu-Nandi counties border row.

The MCAs say the row threatens unity of the two counties, besides having negative effects on business and economic activities of the tow border counties.

The row seemed to take a new twist after the Nandi County Government petitioned the National Land Commission to re-adjust its common border to place Chemelil, Muhoroni, Miwani, Kibigori, Kibos, Koru and Kopere within its borders.

The mentioned towns are currently within Kisumu County. Kisumu County MCA’s on Thursday unanimously passed a motion seeking to compel IEBC and NLC to tour the region, and review the boundaries in contention.

The motion was sponsored by nominated MCA Caren Muga. She criticised calls by Nandi Governor Stephen Sang to have the county claim parts of Kisumu. She termed the calls as uncalled for.

“Governor Sang’ should come clean and tell us whether the clashes at the Kisumu-Nandi border were a wider scheme to extend the boundaries,” she said.

She said that the move by Nandi County is aimed at derailing the country’s quest to move forward, after several months of high political temperatures last year.
