Mr Chiloba explained how the commission had put in place arrangements to ensure that the 2017 general elections are executed according to the law.

"In the beginning of this year we shared with the country what we called 2017 elections roadmap. That was in January this year. So where we stand today, from my personal point of view, we can say that we are on course towards free and fair elections on our roadmap," he said.

Chiloba added that with proper planning they had put in place, they were able to persuade the parliament to allocate them adequate resources.

"And this financial year we can say confidently that we have adequate resources to allow us carry out implementation of activities for this financial year. In terms of funding we are in good shape at the moment," the CEO assured.

However he did not hesitate to mention that they had not purchased some of the requirements for the next year elections such as Electronic Data Identification Devices.

"We want to procure or acquire those kits in good time. In particular we are referring to Electronic Data Identification devices now that we know the election date," Chiloba added.

He went on to say that procurement of election kits would be done in good time to enable testing and training of staff.

"So we are saying that we must have these equipment at least six months before elections to allow us to carry out testing as well as training of the staff."
