The independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has been challenged to increase the number of voter registration centres in Kisumu to ensure all eligible voters register on time.

Mr Eliud Kanyuri a Kisumu based human rights activist said that many people are finding it hard to go for registration because the centres are far away.

“People are working the whole day and whenever they try going for registration, the distance to the registration centre is far because they are few in this area,” said Kanyuri.

Kanyuri said that the population in Kisumu has grown over the years and IEBC is still using the same voter registration centres used more than 10 years ago.

He added that increasing the number of centres will ensure groups such as boda boda operators are registered because the nature of their job is demanding.

Kanyuri, who was speaking in Manyatta on Sunday, said that the few centres are usually characterised by long queues which most of the times discourages people.
