The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has cleared 11 candidates to vie for Kabete constituency seat in the by-election set for May 4.
Former Embakasi legislator Ferdinand Waititu, who will be vying on a Jubilee Alliance Party ticket, is among those endorsed by IEBC.
Waititu was accompanied by some of the Kiambu County leaders to present his papers to the electoral commission.
Lead by Thika Town MP Alice Ng'ang'a and her Kikuyu counterpart Kimani Ichung'wa, the leaders blamed the county government of Kiambu for increasing levies and transferring the county headquarters without any consultations.
The leaders said they have already endorsed Waititu to vie for the gubernatorial seat in the county in 2017 general election.
Waititu was defeated by Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero in the last general elections. He appealed the matter in court of which he also lost the case.
Other candidates that have been cleared to vie are Kavore Kariuki to run on Martha Karua’s Narc-Kenya, Isaiah Ndirangu (Democratic Unity), Newton Njenga (National Vision Party), George Mungai (independent candidate), Paul Kariuki (People’s Party of Kenya), Mr Moses Wachaga (independent), Wilson Karanja (ODM), while Kiriro wa Ngugi will contest on the Democratic Party ticket.
The candidates have been crisscrossing the constituency, selling their ideas to the electorate.
Kabete seat fell vacant following the shooting dead of George Muchai on February 7 in Nairobi’s city centre.
