Three candidates have been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to vie for the Nakuru Women representative position.

The three (who were cleared by the IEBC by on Tuesday are Gladys Wangui Karuga of KANU, Zipporah Muthoni Kimani-an independent and Gladys Jemuge Kamuren of Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM). Later, Muiruri Assumpta Wangui of Maendeleo Chap chap, and Kurwa Asha Rashid of ODM were cleared on Monday. However, Mary Mwarania Ndegwa, an independent candidate who was to present her papers at around 9am did not show up.According to the IEBC officials, they had not received any communication from her. Addressing the media after her clearance, Grace Wangui Karuga who is vying on a KANU ticket termed it a two horse race and called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to reciprocate the support of KANU by also supporting her candidature. “This is a two-horse race and I would like to request our President to also consider us from KANU as we support him,” she said.  Meanwhile, Rev Zipporah Kimani who lost in the Jubilee nominations and opted for independent candidature called on her supporters to maintain peace throughout the campaign period. “Personally, I will ensure a peaceful campaign and I hope my competitors will also do the same,” she said.  Gladys Kamuren expressed optimism at clinching the seat saying she was ready to face her competitors.Other candidates expected to be cleared on Wednesday for the seat are incumbent Mary Njoki Mbugua who will vie as an independent, Sheila Wanjiku Muigai (Independent), Liza Chelule (Jubilee), Agnes Njambi (Independent), Sakina Said (SAFINA), Kamau Janet Wangui(The National Vision Party), and Nyakeriga Maureen Moraa of Republic Liberty Party.
