Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen’s competitor has been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to vie for the county’s senatorial seat.

The former Inspector General of police, David Kimaiyo, presented his nomination papers to the commission, Sunday.

Kimaiyo who is eyeing the seat on a Kanu ticket is expected to battle it out with Jubilee’s nominee, Murkomen.

The former IG expressed confidence that he would defeat the incumbent in the upcoming August 8 elections.

He added that he had more experience in politics since he has been in politics for a very long time.

“I have been in politics for a very long time. I crisscrossed the country with former President Daniel Moi. I therefore understand politics better,” said Kimaiyo.

The ex-police boss also noted he was not interested to dwell in irrelevant politics.

“I will not involve on petty politics like talking about individuals. I will go door to door to campaign and respectfully seek for votes,” he said.

Kimaiyo faces Deputy president William Ruto's ally, incumbent senator Kipchumba Murkomen who is defending his seat, on a Jubilee Party ticket.
