The clerks in Kibera were a happy lot on Tuesday as the registration came to an end. Despite the limited number of people who turned out for voter registration, the clerks called it a great exercise. At some point, the clerks relaxed at the registration centres because there were no people who lined up at the stations to register.

Newton Mong’iti, who was among the clerks in Kibera said that despite the challenges they faced during the exercise, it was finally done.

“There were a lot of challenges. Walking around the whole ward looking for people was not an easy thing. Some people did not want to be registered as some were rude once you ask them to register. Someone can ask you if you register me, are you going to pay me. Who am I going to vote for once I register? Mind your own business brother. These were the questions from some Kibera residents,” said Mong’iti.

He thanked those residents who took time to register.

The exercise clearly showed that Kenyans have lost trust and hope in voting as many of the leaders elected have done nothing, in terms of development while others are busy stealing public funds.
