The independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has come in with new laws aimed at regulating the amount of funds spent by political hopefuls.

According to the poll body,all political bodies will be allowed only to spend a maximum of Sh15 billion.

According to commissioner Mohammed Alawi during an interview, the aspirants and parties will have to disclose their nomination and campaign expenditure and no foreign donations will be allowed to infiltrate into the country.

The presidential aspirants are allowed a budget of not more than Sh5 billion.

The aspirants for senatorial, gubernatorial and women representative seats will only be allowed to spend up to Sh433 million at least, for Nairobi County.

The members of National Assembly aspirants will not use funds exceeding Sh33 million for their campaigns while their members of county assembly counterparts will only be allowed a maximum of Sh10.2 million, at least, for the Kamenu ward in Kiambu the minimum budget allowed, is Sh66 thousand.

Apart from the budget oversight, the commission will have the aspirants disclose their source of funding.

Those found guilty of breaching the rules will be jailed for a period not exceeding 2 years.
