IEBC has revealed that voting took place in Kisumu County yet earlier reports indicated that elections were postponed in the region. IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati and Commissioner Abdi Guliye said that the transmitted results would be treated as valid.
They said 51 votes were transmitted from Kisumu indicating that voting took place in some parts of Kisumu county.
"Yes, there are two constituencies in the counties mentioned where voting has been suspended where actually in some polling stations voting took place, these are Kisumu West and Muhoroni.. For those areas where there was voting, there will be valid transmissions," Prof Guliye said according to Kenyans.co.ke IEBC officials from different polling stations were also held responsible for the difference in number of forms 34A transmitted and the number of polling stations in which voting process took place. In an initial briefing by IEBC , Chebukati noted that 35,564 polling stations were open for voting. However, by Saturday 5 pm, the Commission had received 37,161 forms 34 A, roughly 2,000 more than the number of polling stations that were opened for voting. Vote counting and tallying is currently underway at the National tallying center at the Bomas of Kenya.
