Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners have agreed to exit office.
In their submission to the Joint Select Committee on Wednesday, IEBC Chair Issack Hassan said the commission will not be a stumbling block to a political settlement that gives them a dignified package.
“The country is bigger than any of us and if there will be a political settlement, the commission will not be a stumbling block. We are prepared for next year’s General Election and therefore our staff should be given time to prepare for 2017 elections,” said Hassan.
This comes after the committee's co-chairs James Orengo and Kiraitu Murungi asked the IEBC chiefs whether they can leave office with a dignified pay off.
Orengo and Kiraitu have praised the commissioners' stand, terming it as a show of patriotism.
Treasury CS Henry Rotich had earlier said there was a contingency fund to facilitate a send-off package for the commissioners should they opt to exit voluntarily.
