Speaking during a press conference Capitol Hill, Nairobi, Kalonzo insisted that the commissioners are conducting transactions when they should be out of office following the enactment of a new law to send them home before the next general elections.

“The retired commissioners must stop any activity or engagement in the name of IEBC forthwith and new commissioners must assume office on or before 23 December 2016,” said Mr Musyoka, as quoted by Nation.

Musyoka affirmed that the new law requires the commission to have seven members and not nine as it was in the past.

“The Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2016 only provides for a Commission consisting of seven members and there are no transitional provisions enabling the Commissioners to remain in office as constituted prior to the enactment of the statute,” he added.

The former Vice president and other leaders from the opposition faulted the commissioners for lack of integrity and credibility in offering their services to the people of this nation.

“The removal of the commissioners was founded on their lack of integrity and credibility and their characters have been impugned in relation to several scandals including 'Chickengate'.

They cannot continue to be in office and transact the business of the commission,” he posed.
