Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala has opposed proposal by IEBC commissioners to be given a sendoff package as they exit the electoral body.
Kiala says that the commissioners do not deserve a send-off package.
He stated that the commissioners cannot be paid for the work they have not done. Kiala asked the commissioners to exit without conditions stating that they have failed Kenyans.
The deputy governor wondered why the commissioners would want to be paid for the work they have not done.
“It is ridiculous for the commissioners to demand pay for the job they have not done, they should just exit peacefully,” he said on phone.
Kiala also questioned the commissioner’s request to be given immunity against prosecution in case they are found to have contravened the law in line of their duties.
Kiala accused the commissioners of being insincere adding that nothing should be given to them.
The IEBC commissioners had requested a sendoff package in case they are to exit office.
The joint parliamentary committee handling thee IEBC matter is expected to make recommendations on the proposal and way forward for the commission ahead of 2017 elections.
