Khalwale said the departure of the three was long overdue after they messed up the August 8 presidential election outcome.

The three are Consolata Nkatha Maina, Paul Kurgat and Margaret Mwachanya.

"Thank you for your resignation. Actually it is good riddance. Our only and collective regret is that you blew up the 2017 general elections, allowing computers to decide the ‘winners’," he said on Monday hours after the three commissioners left office.

The former Kakamega Senator made the remarks hours after the three IEBC commissioners resigned from the commission citing disagreements with IEBC chariman Wafula Chebukati. The three also claimed Chebukati is not qualified for the electoral body's top job.

Khalwale said the resignation of the three was the best thing to happen following  reports of division between the commissioners. Three commissioners were said to be in support of IEBC Chief Executive Ezra Chiloba while two others including the first commissioner to resign, Everlyne Akombe had sided with Chebukati.

Chiloba is presently on a three-month forced leave. Chebukati has already indicated the IEBC is facing a huge crisis following the resignation of the three commissioners.
