Two people have been arrested and several others injured during the opposition IEBC protests in Machakos county.
The protests were on Monday lead by the Machakos county Deputy governor Bernard Kiala and the town Chairman of Chamber of Commerce Simon Kitheka.
The group of more than 200 protestors was first gathered in Mulu Mutisya gardens where they were assured of peaceful demonstrations.
"We are ready for a peaceful match to the IEBC offices in unity as the Cord Coalition so as to state our stand as we lack faith and trust in IEBC commission," said Kiala.
However, the calmness did not last long as the police lobbed teargas 100 metres from the Mulu Mutisya gardens before the demonstrators could arrive outside the IEBC offices.
Meanwhile, Kiala and Kitheka could not comment on the failed demos as they fled following the gunshots and teargas lobbing.
Security has been beefed up in Machakos town and its environs, Kenya Israel Machakos up to Junction following tension from the demonstrations.
