Below is a statement by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on alleged huge number of ghost voters, as published by a daily newspaper.
''NAIROBI: Thursday, May 11, 2017: Our attention has been drawn to an article published in today’s Daily Nation newspaper titled: Polls Team Begins Weeding out Ghost Voters.
We wish to state that at no point during our briefing on the ongoing verification exercise did the Commission, directly or indirectly, report on the existence of 2.9 million ghost voters in the voter register.Such unsubstantiated claims are likely to prejudice the on-going verification exercise and the audit of the register of voters.
We urge journalists to exercise caution by verifying facts before publication. The Commission is always available to provide facts and figures at all times.
