The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said that Cabinet Secretaries are free to campaign for President Uhuru’s reelection.

Speaking on Wednesday in a Nairobi hotel, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said there is no law barring CSs from political activities.

“Cabinet secretaries are exempted from the law (barring civil servants from campaigning). They can propagate party activities,” Mr Chebukati said.

He said other civil servants, however, should not involve themselves in politics.

This comes only days after ODM leader Raila Odinga complained of ministers who campaign for Jubilee.

“In a credible civil service in established democracies, civil servants don't participate in politics. It is wrong from CSs and PSs to be in politics,” Raila said.
