The embattled Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission found itself yet again on the receiving end during Raila Odinga’s visit to Nyamira County as leaders called for their immediate resignation from office.

The commission has been under fire over alleged bias and the opposition has held demonstrations across the country calling for its disbandment.

And on Friday, Mr Odinga led a host of MPs to call for its disbandment, saying the country could not go to an election with the commission as the referee.

“As the opposition, I maintain that we cannot go to an election with the IEBC as presently constituted. They bungled the 2013 elections and we have seen them making biased statements about us and that is why I maintain that they have to be removed,” he said.

“The kind of dialogue we want must not be narrowed to parliamentary standing orders. It must be open where all stakeholders are involved. The conditions given by Jubilee are null and void,” Odinga said.

Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire threatened more demonstrations if the commissioners would have not resigned by the end of next week.

“In fact we don’t even want to go to the dialogue. We may waste time because these people know that the public has lost trust in them. We want them to even voluntarily resign to avoid being subjected to the special committee that we have constituted,” he said.

Similar statements were echoed by Nyamira Women Representative Alice Chae, MPs Sylvanus Osele (Kaspul Kabondo), John Mbadi (Suba), James Gesami (West Mugirango) and Charles Geni (North Mugirango).
