Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka and his political rival Wycliffe Wagamati have been fined Sh1 million each by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee.

This is after the committee found the two candidates to have breached the Electoral code of conduct.

According to the commission, Lusaka (Jubilee) and Wangamati (Ford Kenya), were found guilty of triggering chaos in Bungoma town on June 2, after their followers clashed, leaving one person dead.

“We find both complainant and the accused culpable and mete out the following penalties; That both Lusaka and Wangamati pay a fine of Sh1 million to IEBC within 24 hours from the time of the pronouncement of this judgment in default of which they will stand disqualified from the General Election,” ordered a verdict read by IEBC vice Chairperson Consolata Nkatha, Thursday.

The Wafula chebukati led commission noted that the violence could have been prevented if the two sides avoided clashing into one another’s campaign outrages.
