The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has announced its second phase of one month mass voter registration (MVR) process starting January 16.
IEBC says the exercise will be facilitated by 7,793 BVR kits administered by 15,000 officials who will be deployed countrywide.
In the previous exercise, 5,776 kits were used countrywide.
The poll agency says it targets 6 million new voters at end of the exercise.
IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba on Monday 9 said, Kenya Bureau of National Statistics show about nine million Kenyans have identification cards but are yet to register as voters.
By June 2016, IEBC says it had 15, 857, 185 Kenyans registered as voters.
Chiloba said the commission expects to have a provisional register of voters by March 15 after which it will be subjected to verification by April 10 this year.
Upon amendments proposed during the verification process, IEBC plans to have a final register by June 17 ready to be deployed for the general elections slated for August 8.
Here are the requirements for being a registered voter
1. Be a Kenyan Citizen of at least 18 years
2. Be of sound mind; that is, you cannot register if you are a psycho or lunatic.
3. Have an original national identification card or valid passport. This among other things will prove your citizenship and age threshold.
4. Physically present yourself at the registration centre of your choice.
5. Fill in the form of request to be a registered voter as per the direction of the IEBC official at your centre of registration.
