Rarieda Member of Parliament Nicholas Gumbo has accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of being bias.
Gumbo said the electoral body is favouring candidates from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party while treating those aspirants who are not allied to the party as inferior.
The Rarieda legislator ditched ODM party after he lost during the party’s Siaya gubernatorial primaries. He will be seeking the seat as an independent candidate.
Gumbo also questioned IEBC’s decision to suspend campaigns in Siaya county for a week terming the verdict as malice.
IEBC through Siaya county returning officer Ruth Kulundu on Friday barred candidates in the region from campaigning for a period of one week in order to restore peace and order in the region. This was after supporters of Gumbo and those of Siaya governor Cornel Rasanga clashed during a past ODM rally.
The National Assembly PAC chairman accused the ODM party of starting the chaos. He further alleged Kulundu had shared the decision to suspend the campaigns with his ODM rival Rasanga before telling other candidates.
“It is shocking that with so much evidence naming those who planned the chaos, the vehicles used and even the stockpiles of weapons ODM intended to use, they did not as much as get a slap on the wrist,” the lawmaker said.
“My instincts never lie. I believe she shared her verdict with Rasnaga in advance, but the electorates should not be worry, those tricks will not work,” he added.
