The persistent call for demonstrations by the opposition has strongly come under criticism by a section of legislators allied to the deputy president. The legislators, most of whom hail from Ruto's strongholds in Rift Valley now claim the opposition leaders are using the IEBC row as a scam project.
According to Ronald Tonui, the Bomet central legislator, Raila and his opposition co-principals are exploiting the controversial IEBC issue to solicit for donor funds to finance their 2017 presidential campaigns.
"The truth is that Raila and his opposition team has no problem with the IEBC commissioners. He is just manipulating the crisis to fund-raise for 2017 presidential polls. He is already receiving cash from foreign sponsors because he has lied to them that there is a massive crisis in the country that requires money to solve," noted Tonui as he addressed residents in Nakuru town on Sunday.
The legislator further expressed that Raila's reluctance to embrace dialogue in parliament is a scheme to prolong the standoff so that he can continue amassing the funds.
"He is much focused on raising money for his presidential campaigns than he would want to see this IEBC crisis resolved. He is dragging on so that he can continue receiving more money," added Tonui as quoted by News24.
