The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC ) chairman Wafula Chebukati has called for the replacement of the four commissioners who recently resigned from the commission.
Chebukati said the replacements should be urgently effected to enable the commission carry its constitutional mandate.
He said the electoral body was unable to hold its plenary meetings since it lacks quorum.
"The appointing authorities should go ahead and replace the commissioners so that we can carry on with our normal duties," Chebukati said.
He addressed the press at a Machakos hotel on Wednesday.
Accompanied by two other commissioners, Professor Abdi Guliye and Mboya Molu, Chebukati said the law is clear on replacement of commissioners.
Chebukati, however, noted that the commission was going on with its other administrative duties.
"We cannot hold plenary meetings but that's not the only work we do. There's alot of administrative work," Chebukati adeed.
He ruled out possibility of his resignation arguing that it is an individual's choice.
Chebukati said the commission was on a tour of all the counties in order to meet its staff in the branches and ensure the offices funtion as required.
He said they had toured 16 counties.
"Last year when we came into office, we set up 47 county offices. As a commission, we are committed to ensuring that these offices function," Chebukati said.
Chebukati said IEBC county staff are tasked with networking and building trust among the residents for the sake of ensuring smooth-running of future elections.
The commissioners were hosted by Machakos County Elections Manager Joyce Wamalwa.
