A Wiper party MP has called for a thorough clean up of the IEBC voters' register before the country goes to the polls.
Dan Maanzo's call came after USA through its ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec announced that US will fund the cleaning up of the register.
Maanzo said the country will only have a credible election if the register is cleaned.
The MP said the public has a lot of confidence in IEBC as an institution and would like it to approach the election with a clean register.
"The public has started developing confidence on the new IEBC, that confidence will erode that day the Commission will take Kenyans to the elections with that old register," he said.
The Makueni legislator said the names of those who had died must be struck off the register and cases of double registration resolved through an audit of the register.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Saturday, Maanzo said all parties should go the polls when satisfied by the voters register.
The legislator said even though Cord has moved to court and temporarily stopped the award of the audit process, Parliament has put forward some proposals to end the stalemate.
Maanzo said the opposition has suggested to IEBC to call for a stakeholders meeting bringing all the political parties to come out with a way forward regarding the cleaning up of voters register.
IEBC had awarded the tender to audit the register to KPMG but Cord moved to court and obtained orders stopping the tender pointing out that IEBC exercised powers it does not have in awarding the tender.
