Exit talks to determine the payment package for the outgoing IEBC commissioners will begin Monday September 26.
This is amid fears that the opposition, Cord, could make good their threat and return to the streets with renewed anti-IEBC demos.
In the talks, the outgoing team of commissioners will be expected to give their demands to a committee that will include Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, Attorney General Githu Muigai and members of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
According to The Star, the commissioners have said they are willing to leave office on condition that all their dues are paid first.
Already a number of them have begun moving their personal property out of the IEBC offices with two said to have already surrendered their official cars.
“They are preparing to leave. Some are clearing out,” said a source as quoted by The Star.
Once an agreement is made, the outgoing commissioners will tender their formal resignations by writing to the president and open way for new appointments.
There are however fears that the team could remain in office should the talks fail to materialise and pave way for new commissioners before September 30.
