The National Super Alliance (Nasa), led by its principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi paid a courtesy call to the IEBC at their Anniversary Towers offices.
They held wide ranging discussions on the IEBC’s state of electoral preparedness.
During the Thursday meeting, the two parties resolved to be part of five important things, as listed below: 1. That NASA acknowledges that it is the mandate of the IEBC to announce electoral winners and in turn, the Commission acknowledges that it is perfectly legal and proper for stakeholders to establish a parallel center for purposes of monitoring, tallying and verifying the results announced (Parallel Vote Tallying commonly known as PVT) 2. That NASA shall participate fully in the Political Parties Forum for purposes of building trust and working relationships ahead of the General Elections. 3. That the Commission shall consult and revert within 24 hours regarding the commencement date of political party primaries. It is NASA’s assertion that political parties are independent institutions mandated to conduct and supervise their own nomination processes. 4. That both NASA and the Commission condemn all acts of electoral violence both by aspirants and by State agencies including the Police. 5. That NASA is open to participation in a National Elections Conference scheduled by the IEBC for June with a view to further laying the ground for free, fair and verifiable elections in August. Also present during the deliberations were members of Nasa Management Committee including senators James Orengo (Siaya), Johnstone Muthama (Machakos), Dr Eseli Simiyu (Tongaren MP) and Sakwa Bunyasi (Nambale MP).
