Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated MP Isaac Mwaura has called for major reforms at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) before next year’s general election.
On Tuesday, Mwaura said that many Kenyans are losing faith in the electoral body.
“There is need for reforms at the IEBC so that Kenyans can have faith and confidence in the electoral commission,” he said on Tuesday when he addressed journalists at Ruiru town.
The nominated MP who is eying the Ruiru parliamentary seat differed with Cord leaders on their move to forcefully remove the Commissioners.
He said that use of force will not help adding that constitutional mechanisms will help address the issue of IEBC.
He said that IEBC cannot conduct fair elections if Kenyans have lost faith in it. Cord has been pushing for the disbandment of IEBC.
The opposition leaders have accused IEBC of allegedly being controlled by Jubilee government.
On Sunday during a live interview on citizen TV, Cord leader Raila Odinga alleged that the Jubilee government was working with the electoral body to rig the 2017 elections claims the polls agency has refuted vehemently.
