The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said a by-election will not be held in Kwale following to death of Senator Boy Juma Boy.
Addressing the Kenya Chevening Alumni Network in Nairobi on Friday, IEBC Electoral Operations Manager Mwaura Kamwati said that the process of replacing a leader is complex and time consuming.Kamwati said the earliest the county can hold by elections is towards the end of May, which is very close to the next general election. Boy died on February 12 at Aga Khan Hospital following a short illness. The late senator took over his father as Matuga MP in 1983.He retained his seat in both the 1992 and 1998 elections after beating his competitors with a huge margin.The commission also said that there will be no by-election in Nyeri following the death of Governor Nderitu Gachagua on Friday.
