Over 300 residents of Kisumu on Monday staged their demonstrations at the IEBC offices demanding an explanation why they were missing out in the voters' register.

With only hours to the general elections, the residents expressed fear that they will not be allowed to decide who become their leaders.

A section of them lamented that they registered and even verified their names with IEBC.

Merceline Anyango, one of those protesting, claimed she registered at the St Paul Primary School.

She added that the march was to get the county returning officer's intervention but it did not help since the offices were closed.

"We need to be assisted so we can exercise our democratic right tomorrow," she said.

But when County Returning Officer John Lorionokou addressed them later, he said their problem could have come from double registration.

"If there are two or three people with shared ID numbers, the names will automatically not appear in the register," Lorionokou said.

They were referred to their respective constituency offices.
