An official from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been arrested.
Onesmus Kaloki, Mavoko deputy returning officer, was arrested on Monday as he attempted to bribe agents of Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap party agents.
The officer is said to have been bribing the agents into surrendering copies of forms 34A. The officer was detained at the at Mlolongo police station where he spent the night after he was questioned by detective from the DCI office.
He was arrested while trying to obtain copies of the governor ‘s and presidential forms at the constituency in the last general elections.
Athi River police boss Sharma Wario said has confirmed the arrest of the official saying investigations are under way.
"I am aware of the IEBC official's arrest. The matter is being handled by the Machakos county DCI commander."
The agents had reported the accused official to the police for mounting pressure on them to surrender the forms in question. The agents were speaking to the Star.
"This man has been calling me since Saturday. He demanded that we meet me so that I surrender copies of the forms," one said, as quoted by the Local Daily.
“The official told the agent had collected forms from other agents and he was the only one remaining," he added.
