An Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official was on Monday charged in court for leaving a ballot box unattended.

Nicholas Kibet Seurey was a presiding officer at Kwa Ndomo Primary School polling station in Magarini, Kilifi County.

The prosecution told the Malindi court that Seurey left the box attended at Mapimo Polytechnic.

"The accused disappeared and switched off his phone, prompting a manhunt on October 27," the court was told.

The official, however, denied the charges and was freed on a bond of Sh200,000.

The case will be heard on November 28.
