Ahmed says that the commission took the step to ensure that all parts of Thika were covered to register more voters.

Speaking on Tuesday in Thika East when they launched the voter registration in the area, Ahmed said that they are targeting more than 300,000 voters in the exercise. This, he said, was in comparison to the last time they conducted such an exercise where they registered 294,576 voters in two weeks. This is despite the failure of the biometric voter registration kits.

He added that the regional elections co-coordinator, Aloisia Kanini, says they have been making progress.

Meanwhile, Thika Town offices have been closed as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is now operating on a mobile schedule to ensure they reach all eligible residents despite their location.

The commission has called on area residents to ensure they registered as voters to avoid the last minute rush to registration stations.
