Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials have been attacked in Bondo constituency, Siaya County by rowdy youth.
They stormed a polling station where Presiding Officers and Deputy Presiding Officers were to undergo training ahead of the October 26 repeat presidential election.
According to Bondo Constituency Returning Officer John Matekwa, the hostile youth stormed Sirona Academy, broke window panes at the school, roughed up everyone on site before taking off after their mission.
The training exercise has been called off.
"We have been forced to call off training until further notice," Matekwa told Radio Ramogi as quoted by Citizen Digital.
There have been fears by a section of IEBC officials in Nyanza region over their safety amid reports that opposition-leaning regions are keen to derail the repeat presidential poll following the decision by NASA leader Raila Odinga to withdraw from the race where he was to face President Uhuru Kenyatta.
However, IEBC commissioner Roselyne Akombe allayed fears over the weekend even as she insisted that the commission will beef up security for its election officials.
